Our
instant lawn is usually supplied by Living Earth Grass Farm.
All soil preparation is done by us, i.e. shaping/leveling,
composting and fertilizing all before the grass is laid.
The
most popular lawns in this area are, Buffalo lawn, Berea lawn,
Cynodon lawn and Kearsney lawn.
Buffalo
is a full sun lawn with a fairly coarse dark green leaf.
It does well in our sandy soils and fares fairly well in the
clay type soils too. With a proper fertilization program
it becomes a lovely thick lawn which can withstand a fair
amount of traffic. Drought resistance is fair.
Berea
is a full sun to semi-shade lawn with a light green leaf.
It also does well in our sandy soils as long as it is well
watered, also does well in clay type soils. This lawn
also likes to be well fertilized and watered, it is a softer
lawn than Buffalo and can't withstand the same amount of traffic
but is still one of the most popular lawns in our area.
Drought resistance is fair to poor.
Cynodon
is a full sun lawn with a fine to very fine dark green leaf.
(Certain varieties are used on greens) It grows very
well in sandy and clay type soils. This lawn also looks
best when well fertilized and watered. It tends to
show signs drought conditions very quickly but revives very
quickly when watered. It is a very tough lawn and tends
to take charge over other lawns but is still one of my favorites.
Kearsney
is generally a lawn which likes a lot of water and can grow
fairly well in semi-shaded areas. Due to the fact that
is likes water it does not grow very well in sandy soils unless
watered often. It is a soft lawn with a very broad leaf
and is medium green in colour. I have found that it
responds better to compost than artificial fertilizers, if
you do fertilize with artificial fertilizer be very careful
with fertilizers high in nitrogen and water very well after
fertilizing. Drought resistance is low.
Buffalo,
Berea and Cynodon lawns can be supplied as instant lawns but
Kearsney is usually supplied as grass plugs.
